The Archive Research and Study Center (ARSC) sponsors exhibitions, scholarly workshops, symposia and publications on a variety of topics relevant to film and television history and criticism.
Special events and symposia
- 2019: Screening of The Savages (1967) and conversation with UCLA Film & Television Archive Preservationist Jillian Borders at the UCLA Darren Star Screening Room, Melnitz Hall
- 2015: This is the City: Preserving Moving Images of Los Angeles, co-sponsored by UCLA Moving Image Archive Studies and UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.
- 2011: Celebrating Orphan Films, an eclectic mix of screenings of neglected films from outside the commercial mainstream and related discussions, presented by ARSC and the Archive partnered with Los Angeles Filmforum and New York University's Orphan Film Symposium.
- 2010: Reimagining the Archive: Remapping and Remixing Traditional Models in the Digital Era, presented in conjunction with UCLA Moving Image Archive Studies and the French Institut National de l'Audiovisuel.
- 2006: Out of the Closet, Into the Vaults: LGBT Film Preservation and Access Strategies, presented in association with the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project.

Research awards
ARSC research initiatives have included Student Research Awards and Visiting Researcher Stipends to encourage scholarly access to collections.
