A central figure of the New York art and film scenes since the 1970s, Beth B has continuously expanded the form and subject of independent cinema throughout her prolific career. The no-budget, punk-fueled films she directed with her creative partner Scott B feverishly explored unconventional themes and characters and inspired an entire generation of filmmakers to claim the ethos of DIY production. On her own, B has produced over 30 works across a range of genres including experimental, documentary and narrative shorts and features. From the dark side of our technologically mediated society to liberating expressions of gender and sexuality, she has brought a uniquely intimate and prescient approach to some of the most vital and controversial topics of the day.

The Archive is thrilled to partner with the American Cinematheque to present a selection of B’s films—many screening in new digital restorations—that were part of a recent career retrospective at MoMA.

View the American Cinematheque schedule for additional screenings on April 5, 6 and 7 at the Los Feliz 3.
