The Triplets of Belleville

France/Belgium/Canada/U.K./Latvia/U.S., 2003

Like the best silent films, this Oscar-nominated French animation relies heavily on pantomime and music to tell the story of dedicated bicyclist Champion who has his sights set on a Tour de France victory. When local mobsters kidnap Champion and his bike for profit, his pint-sized grandmother teams up with the famed but faded Golden Age song-and-dance triplets from Belleville to rescue him. Full of adventure and inventive visuals; the perfect big screen experience for fans of unique, expressive animation.

35mm, color, 80 min. Director/Writer: Sylvain Chomet. With: Jean-Claude Donda, Dirk Denoyelle, Monica Viegas.
