Enter the Dragon (1973)
4K restoration!
Considered one of the most popular martial arts films of all time, this U.S./Hong Kong co-production fully captured Bruce Lee’s immense screen presence, sinewy athleticism and bona fides while elevating him into international stardom. Well before today’s superhero team-ups, Lee and fellow competitors, Saxon and Kelly descend on crime lord Han’s private island to fight each other to the death only to find themselves up against something more insidious. Featuring early cameos by Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan.
UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television alumnus Justin Lin’s Finishing The Game feted our beloved martial arts hero and global cinematic icon by interrogating our complex, pop culture consumption of Bruce Lee’s legacy in terms of the continuing dearth of Asian media representation on Western screens and as a zenith of what we can once again achieve if we cultivate more talent in his mold.
It is therefore fitting that as part of our 50th year celebration of UCLA Asian American Studies, we will unveil a special program on Bruce Lee (with a screening of one of his beloved films) and invite his friends and the community out for both reminiscing and reverie.
DCP, color, in English and Cantonese with English subtitles, 102 min. Director: Robert Clouse. Screenwriter: Michael Allin. Cast: Bruce Lee, John Saxon, Jim Kelly.
