A message for our patrons:
The university has recommended that we suspend events drawing more than 100 people. With this in mind, and considering the health and well-being of our entire community, the UCLA Film & Television Archive is canceling upcoming events at the Billy Wilder Theater. Learn more
The UCLA Film & Television Archive and the UCLA Asian American Studies Center are excited to welcome Film Quarterly for an afternoon conversation about the state of Asian Pacific American film and media in the last half century from the post-Civil Rights Era to post-CRA (Crazy Rich Asians).
Film Quarterly celebrates the 50th anniversary of the UCLA Asian American Studies Center and Visual Communications with a special dossier co-edited with scholar and curator Brian Hu. Hu and FQ’s B. Ruby Rich moderate this panel with FQ dossier contributors to consider the importance of marking this anniversary through analysis and history. The ongoing legacy of that origin moment 50 years ago continues to resonate, ever since its original explosion of Asian American creators and on-screen visibility first changed the nature of self-representation within independent media and mainstream culture.
