Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt (1989)
A tremendous, handmade monument to the lives lost to AIDS, the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt demonstrated that grief and activism together could manifest a powerful symbol of resilience. Winner of the 1989 Academy Award for Documentary Feature, this moving film explores the human stories obscured by statistics, examining the cross-section of identities affected by HIV/AIDS.

Common Threads has been preserved by the Academy Film Archive, Milestone Film & Video, and UCLA Film & Television Archive in conjunction with the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project.
Sections of the AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on view in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater lobby for ticketholders before and after the screening. In addition, sections will be on view for free during the following times:
