Modern Times (1936)
Screen legend Charlie Chaplin takes delirious aim at the dehumanization of technology and mass production by turning the Little Tramp loose, as he said, “like a bull in a china shop” of the mechanical age. Modern Times marked Chaplin’s swan song as his iconic character as well as his first use of a recorded soundtrack (though intertitles remain in the mix) and it remains an essential a comic masterpiece.
