Working Girl  (1988)

The tenacity of women in the workplace is portrayed in great detail (and with brilliantly evolving wardrobe and hairstyle cues) in this multi-Oscar-nominated, critically-acclaimed dramatic thriller-lite.  After Staten Island-based secretary Tess McGill (Melanie Griffith) publicly shames her uptown colleague (played by pre-scandal Kevin Spacey) for his bawdy behavior, she is reassigned to up-and-coming financial executive Katharine Parker (Sigourney Weaver), who immediately assumes credit for Tess’ unique investment ideas.  But when Katharine finds herself laid up with a broken leg, Tess begins her drastic, strategic transformation.  Working-class perms are traded for “serious hair” as a secretary climbs the executive ranks in this modern classic from ultimate actor’s director, Mike Nichols.
