UCLA Film & Television Archive culminates a year-long celebration of its 50th Anniversary by assembling some of the most illustrious restorations performed by our world-famous film preservation staff over our long history. Representing different genres and periods, and indeed, different periods of film preservation technology, this program brings together both cherished classics and rarely screened gems, from early color features, to alternative editions of canonical works, in a celebration of a moving image heritage that has been safeguarded at UCLA for future generations. The feature program is supplemented by occasional shorts and newsreels, giving a reminder of the breadth of the Archive's activities in preservation. In a special programmatic gesture, the Archive's full staff have been consulted, and have come together to suggest favorite titles from our shared legacy, pooling long experience and expertise and making this series a gift from the Archive's family to audiences who have supported our activities over the years, along with funders, strategic collaborators, technicians, and colleagues at worldwide archives and preservation organizations. Many of these restorations have been introduced to Los Angeles audiences at editions of our UCLA Festival of Preservation. We hope that these reprise screenings will recapture some of the magic of those first events, as we share the communal experience of cinema, and celebrate the fine art of remembering.
