Directed by Richard Brooks
In British-ruled Kenya, youthful friends Peter (Hudson) and Kimani (Sidney Poitier) find their friendship riven when an insurgent movement forms in response to colonial oppression. Meeting each other again as guerilla and counter-insurgent, the former friends face the impossibility of their country’s pained way of life. Coinciding with the establishment of Kenya’s first post-colonial government, the film was timely, and remarkably sensitive to Africa’s modern struggles.
