Title:

"Reducing pollution in Los Angeles"

Date:
October 15, 1973

Synopsis

Mayor Tom Bradley and two other men address the press regarding plans to reduce pollution in the Los Angeles area. During part of the segment, Russell Train of the Environmental Protection Agency speaks about controlling the emission of hydrocarbons while Bradley and the other men at the table take notes. Train is not present; his voice is likely coming from a recording or telephone call. One of the men talks about the mayor's task force and the report they generated (Clean Air: The Local Agencies Plan for the Los Angeles Air Basin). Mayor Bradley talks about the bad air pollution problem, and the local interagency effort to work with the EPA to address it. Some of the proposals mentioned include mass transit incentives for employers, dedicated bus lanes and a parking surcharge. Footage includes shots of parking lots, cars driving in and out of lots, and rows of parked cars.

Note:  The KTLA newsfilm collection at UCLA consists of cut and unedited stories, outtakes and fill footage, originally shot on 16mm reversal film stock with magnetic soundtrack. Some footage, particularly material not used for broadcast, may be without sound.
