In a press conference at the Los Angeles Press Club, UCLA employee Dr. Humberto Bracho speaks out against discriminatory hiring practices in the UC system. According to Bracho, the UC system complains about not being able to find qualified minorities to fill academic positions, yet they do not actively search for minority applicants and actively block the chances of minorities already working for the university. One of the men with Bracho, who may be part of the Committee Against Racism, details the affirmative action guidelines in place at the university to extend the pool of minority and women applicants and how they were not followed in Bracho's case. He also lists many of Bracho's qualifications and alleges that Bracho's experience regarding his candidacy for an assistant professor position is the result of racism.
