California Proposition 6, also known as the Briggs Initiative, was on the statewide ballot in November 1978. If it had passed, the measure would have prevented gays and lesbians from teaching in California's public schools. To protest the initiative, demonstrators walked the entire state of California, from the California-Mexico border to Oregon, hoping to engage with people one on one and reveal the truth behind the Briggs Initiative. Reporter Stan Chambers interviews one of the protesters who believes the initiative is unnecessary, and that a teacher's sexuality has nothing to do with whether or not they are a good teacher. He also talks about the logistics of their journey, including the support vehicles and finding lodging as they travel. Footage includes shots of the group walking along Highland Avenue in Hollywood.
