"Long Beach NAACP supports Angela Davis"

In a press conference, Jim Swan, president of the Long Beach NAACP, goes on record as officially supporting Angela Davis. Davis, a former UCLA philosophy professor, has been charged with buying the weapons used in the Marin County shootout in which three people were killed. According to Swan, Davis has proclaimed her innocence, stating she is being persecuted because of her blackness and political beliefs. They believe if certain precautions are not taken during the legal prosecution of her case, the trial would only result in her becoming a victim of the legal system and its repression of minority individuals. Swan details four conditions that must be met to ensure she receives a just trial, including a change of venue to an acknowledged black community, and a trial judge that is an accepted representative of the black community.
