"Impact of Proposition 13 and abortion rights protesters picket budget cuts eliminating Medi-Cal funds for abortions"

Reporter Mike Botula covers the impact of cuts to state and city budgets after the passage of Proposition 13 resulted in reduced tax revenue for public services. In the first segment, members of the Los Angeles Feminist Women's Health Center protest the decision to cut Medi-Cal funding for abortions out of the budget. An unidentified representative discusses how the cutbacks will affect women from low-income backgrounds the most, and communicates that women should know the procedure will be available for another month before funding is cut. Additional footage shot in front of the Employment Development Office includes Botula’s commentary that the building was supposed to be full of teachers, firemen and police officers who had been laid off, but due to the release of surplus funds, only a small number of government employees were actually laid off. Includes b-roll footage of L.A. City fire truck, L.A.P.D. and L.A. Sheriff's squad cars, and a school bus.
