Mayor Tom Bradley and Police Chief Daryl Gates hold a joint press conference regarding plans to comply with the court order to desegregate schools. Bradley advocates for peaceful compliance, and wants people to respect each other. He also asks people not to participate in the proposed bus boycott. Gates indicates the Los Angeles Police Department has been and will continue monitoring the entire situation, and is very optimistic that shortly they can reassign their officers to other kinds of police work.
