Title:

"Mayor Tom Bradley holds press conference on energy conservation"

Date:
March 8, 1974

Synopsis

In a press conference Mayor Tom Bradley addresses energy concerns, stating that the city is in "pretty good shape" for the rest of 1974. He also cautioned conservation efforts must continue due to rising demand or they might find themselves in the same situation they were in at the end of 1973. Bradley also talks about December of 1973 when the city was faced with the possibility of rolling blackouts due to a shortage of oil. A city ordinance was imposed mandating residents reduce their use of electricity, which they did successfully. Energy coordinator Harold Williams takes the podium to talk about the city ordinance, and also addresses the oil embargo and what might happen if it is lifted, as well as increasing competition for oil as demand grows. Clip includes silent footage of reporters in the audience taking notes.
