The Archive is renowned for its pioneering efforts to rescue, preserve and showcase moving image media. It is dedicated to ensuring that film history is explored and enjoyed for generations to come.

L.A. Rebellion filmmaker and UCLA alumna Julie Dash was recently appointed as the 2013 Bob Allison (Allesee) Endowed Professor in Media in the Department of Communication at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Dash will be in residence at the University over the Winter semester and will teach two courses, including a highly competitive master class in film production.

Julie DashWorking closely with a small group of very lucky students, Dash views the course as "...an exciting and unique opportunity for me as a filmmaker because my WSU class is comprised of such a diverse group of students. Collaboration is the key to successful film production, so I'm looking forward to working alongside these emerging producers, writers, directors, cinematographers, production designers and editors who have taken on the challenge of producing several projects this semester.”

In addition to her instruction responsibilities, Dash will attend a number of screenings and events around the Detroit area, including An Evening with Film Director Julie Dash on January 24 at the Detroit Institute of Arts. A retrospective of her career kicks off on February 2 at the Institute's Detroit Film Theatre with The Rosa Parks Story (2002) and continues at various locations throughout the month. Dash will then return to the Detroit Film Theatre starting March 30 as the guest curator of a series of films that influenced her work, such as Black Orpheus (1959, dir. Marcel Camus).
